SSNIT Seed: Over 4,000 Individuals Enroll in Less Than a Month
Mr. Charles Akwei Garshong, the Public Affairs Manager for the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT), has highlighted that over 4,000 individuals from the informal sector have enrolled in the Self-Employed Enrolment Drive (SEED) within less than a month since its launch in Kumasi.
“We are pleased to report that in less than a month since the SEED was launched, approximately 4,000 more individuals have enrolled. As we continue to spread awareness about the program, it appears that people are beginning to understand its significance,” Mr. Garshong shared with the media in Kumasi.
Opemsuo News has confirmed that records available at the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) indicate a tremendous increase in the number of clients registering for the product nationwide.
The rising number of registrations for the SEED, emphasizes the growing interest among individuals in securing a better future, according to Mr. Garshong.
During a sensitization program, he urged self-employed individuals to take advantage of the SEED, which provides reliable and lifelong insurance coverage for those in the informal sector.
He highlighted the positive response from clients as an indication that people have recognized the importance of securing their future after retirement and have identified SEED as the best and most reliable social security option in terms of retirement and in the event of disability.
“People have come to realize the need to safeguard their future after retirement, and they have found that the SEED program offers the best policy. As a result, they continue to enroll,” Mr. Garshong explained.
He further stressed that the policy is particularly crucial for two significant reasons: disability and old age. In such circumstances, he emphasized that self-employed individuals risk losing their life savings while also experiencing incapacitation.
However, those enrolled in the SEED program are supported by SSNIT through monthly payments for the rest of their lives.
The increasing enrollment figures demonstrate the growing awareness and acceptance of SEED as a reliable and essential social security program among self-employed individuals in Ghana.
The Self-Employed Enrolment Drive, launched on 10th May, 2023, is an SSNIT initiative designed to provide a lifetime pension scheme for various self-employed individuals, including traders, drivers, lawyers, masons, carpenters, and engineers, among others.
At the launch of the product , the Managing Director, Dr. John Ofori Tenkorang told the media the total number of self-employed on SSNIT scheme was about 15,000.
However, after engagement with stakeholders in the process to roll out the SEED, subscribers had shot up to 34,000.
