Speaker Breaks Silence On His Military Guards Withdrawal By The Gov’t

The Speaker of Parliament Rt. Hon. Alban S. K Bagbin has finally broken the silence on his military guards’ withdrawal by this government early this year.

The speaker, who was elected for the first time in Ghana’s parliamentary democracy from an opposition party, requested military protection, which the government eventually removed, creating issues in the media space.

During a media encounter with the parliamentary press corps, the speaker expressed shock at how his military guards were withdrawn and revealed that the same President approved one military guard for him when he was 2nd deputy speaker for his four (4) years, “so what has changed”, he queried.

The speaker also made mention of the chief justice whom he said, has four military guards.

Hon Bagbin further stated that the Supreme Court judges have two military guards each, the Minister for Justice and Attorney General, and the electoral commission chairperson as well.

Hon Bagbin assured his sympathisers that his security is being catered for.
