Spain Lift 4th Euro Cup

Spain on Sunday won the European Championship title for a record fourth time after Italy failed to defend the title and exited the tournament in the Round of 16.

La Roja won the finals by 2-1 against the Three Lions at the Olympia stadion in Berlin to clutch the highest number of titles produced in the championship.

After ending the first half on a goalless scoreline, Athletic Bilbao’s Nico Williams with an assist from Barcelona’s Lamine Yamal put Spain ahead two minutes after recess.

However, parity was restored to Gareth Southgate’s side through a Palmer Coleman strike assisted by Real Madrid’s Jude Bellingham in the 73rd minute. The levelled scoreline didn’t last long as Coach De La Fuente’s boys took back their lead to claim the glory.

Mikel Oyarzabal tapped home an inch-perfect pass from Marc Cucurella to register their second goal four minutes to full time.

This marks Spain’s fourth Euro title having won in 1964, 2008, 2012 and now 2024.

For England, this is yet another heartbreak, after coming close to their first title without winning for the second consecutive time.

In 2020, the Three Lions under Southgate missed the title in the finals after losing to Italy on penalties.
