West Ham Abandon Bid For Maguire

West Ham will no longer pursue the deal to secure English defender Harry Maguire, this is according to Spanish journalist Fabrizio Romano.

The Hammers were set to take Maguire either through loan or sale but negotiations with Manchester United seem to have hit the rocks.

The decision to abandon the negotiations follows new talks between the two English Clubs as well as the fast-approaching end of the transfer window.

“West Ham set to leave negotiations for Harry Maguire after new talks Deal collapsed as Man United rejected to loan or sell Maguire with just three days left in the window,” the journalist relayed.

West Ham initially made a bid for the player at an offer of £20 million but it was rejected by the Red Devils.

A second bid at £30 million was almost successful but turned out the other way round.

In January 2020, Maguire was appointed the Red’s captain after wearing the band on 12 preceding occasions. He was, however, stripped of the merit in July by head coach Erik ten Hag.

Under Erik ten Hag, the former Leicester City defender seems to have fallen out of favour as he only had eight starts in the Premier League last season.

The transfer window for England and Scotland will end at 11 pm on Friday, September 1.
