Something Really Binds Us; Oguaamanhene on Otumfuo’s Friendship
The Paramount Chief of Oguaa Traditional Area, Osabarima Kwesi Atta II has opened up about his unbreakable bond with Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.
He publicly spoke about it during a banquet he hosted for the Asantehene as part of his reception in Cape Coast in the Central Region on Thursday, September 5, 2024.
The event was held at the Lush On The Coast Resort and was joined by a number of eminent Asante and Fante traditional leaders.
Osabarima could not hide his excitement at seeing “his brother” seated right beside him on his land and in anticipation of the climax of his 25th Anniversary which coincides with the 60th Anniversary of the Oguaa Fetu Afahye.
In his speech, he revealed his friendship with the King of the Asante Kingdom has been for an extended period of time and has grown into brotherhood over the years.
“It’s great to see an array of friends gathered at one place with an aim to enjoy ourselves and most especially because Cape Coast is celebrating its 60th Anniversary of the Festival (Fetu Afahye). The most important for this ceremony is the presence of Otumfuo. We have been friends for a long time and I don’t know but there is something that really binds us together and I am glad that he is here to join this festival celebration.”
Meanwhile, Osabarima proposed another visit by the Asantehene after the festival.
“I want him to come back and that one will be a relaxing visit. The two of us will be swimming in the sea…It will be the two of us. My brother welcome. I’m so glad that you are here. You have been to other places but today you are here.”
He promised all his guests from the Asante Kingdom of nothing short of uniqueness at the ceremony slated for Saturday, September 7, 2024.
“I welcome everybody to Cape Coast.”
The Asantehene for his part indicated that November would have marked exactly 78 years since his uncle, Prempeh II journeyed to the Fanteland for an event at the Mfantsipim School.
He disclosed, “I wanted to wait till November so that we will calculate the days but I am here today with my brother because he wanted me to be part of the anniversary. Then again, my brother, the Chancellor of Cape Coast University also had programmed for me to come for an honorary doctorate degree so it was scheduled on the 6th and then the 7th for me to be here.
“Cape Coast University had wanted to do it earlier but then my brother insisted it should be within the period of the Oguaa Fetu Afahye so that’s why I came for the honorary degree today then I sit through for the Fetu Afahye. I can’t leave on Saturday so he tells me that I have to stay till Sunday.”
His Majesty on that note relayed, “The Fetu Afahye is going to be grand.”
