Someone Is Behind Offinsohemaa’s Insubordination- Hemanhene

Hemanhene Nana Wiafe Apau Sanwoansan strongly believes someone behind the scenes is responsible for the gross insubordination being exhibited by the queen mother of Offinso Traditional Area, Nana Ama Serwaa Nyarko.

He posits that he has known and transacted with the queen mother for thirty years and knew her to be a reserved and principled fellow.

He stated that the queen mother is treading a dangerous path and therefore making a grave mistake with her decision to go against Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.

““Offinsohemaa is making a grave mistake. I have known her for 30 years. Why should she do that? The youth are performing all kinds of rites and she has remained silent. What are all these and she has given her support to them? She must be wary else she will regret it one day,” he said at a press conference organized by the Kumasi Traditional Council on October 13, 2023.

He added, “She has gone wayward and I believe someone is behind that.”

The sudden change in the queen mother’s attitude does come as a surprise to not only the Nana Wiafe Apau Sanwoansan but Otumfuo too.

During a meeting of the Asanteman in October this year, Otumfuo admitted his admiration for her in the past due to the stool name she carries but indicated that her decision to mischievously “sell” the Offinso stool out to a non-royal revealed her true colour.

“Considering her name Ama Serwaa Nyarko-same as my mother’s- and how my mother loved her dearly is the reason I have been lenient with her. Ama Serwaa Nyarko is my mother. I admired her and referred to her as my mother. With her attitude in this Offinso case, she has shown her true character. She is evil.”

The controversy surrounding the stool is linked to attempts by some persons led by the queen mother to “sell” it to Dr Desmond Kofi Koduah Sarpong, former Board Chairman of Asante Kotoko Sporting Club.

According to Hemanhene, who represented the Bekum Division at the presser, some royals approached Otumfuo about efforts by the queen mother to compromise on tradition and give away the stool to KK Sarpong.

The royals urged the King to intervene to forestall the unforeseen situation, prompting the establishment of a Committee to probe the allegation.

It was found by the Otumfuo and the Committee that the said KK Sarpong- who was presented by the queen mother to occupy the stool was not related to the Ahyirem royal family as he claimed after analysis of his family tree.

It was found that the woman he claimed to originate from never had a child and was thus disqualified, breeding tensions among the queen mother and some youth of Offinso.

Speaking at one of the Asanteman Traditional Council meetings in October, Otumfuo declared, “I will not allow anyone to sell out the Offinso stool.”
