Sixth Awukudae Marked: Who Joined And Why?

The Manhyia Palace, in accordance with customs and traditions, celebrated the sixth Awukudae festival of the year on July 30, 2025.
As always, a mini Durbar was held by the King, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.
The moment brought together dignitaries, traditional leaders, and community members, granting them the opportunity to pay homage as well as pay a courtesy visit.

Let’s take a look at some of the notable figures who joined in the festivities and explore the reasons behind their presence.
Grand Lodge of Ghana
The masonic group introduced Dr. Nortey Kwashie Omaboe also known as Nana Awuku Sakyi, Akyempemhene of Amanokrom and Mpuntuhene of Akuapem to Otumfuo for His Majesty’s blessings.

He was elected earlier in April and installed in May.
The group also introduced other executives to the Asantehene, who is leading member of the Grand Lodge of Ghana.
Bekwai MP
The Member of Parliament for Bekwai Constituency, Hon Ralph Opoku Adusei, was also introduced to the King by Kokofuhemaa, Nana Osagyefo Kissiwaa Mmua Baayie II.

She sought the blessings of His Majesty for the lawmaker who has been a practising lawyer for over 14 years.
Brogya Foundation
The founder of Brogya Foundation, Nana Brogya Gyamfi, used the occasion to brief Otumfuo about the life-saving and life-changing intervention his Non-governmental Organisation has been undertaking.
He said he was inspired after his sister died in labour and left behind her daughter for him to care for.
“Together with my wife, I also realised many other women who had died in labour and left their children in distress. So we decided to set up an NGO to help out with such children in Agogo.”

According to him, the organisation has been providing essential school materials annually to the underprivileged in the community.
“Last year, we shared about 10,000 shoes with students in Agogo.”
In addition, he said, health interventions such as free plastic surgeries are offered to patients.
“I brought in plastic surgeons from LA and in a week we conducted surgeries for 300 people from across the country.”
Nana Brogya deems it fit, at this point, to seek the blessings of the Asantehene to further this cause. he also presented some citations and awards he has received over the years.
“I wanted to come seek the blessings of Otumfuo and his protection.”
Asante Presbytery
The Asante Presbytery of the Presbyterian Church, for its part joined the Awukudae celebration to offer their appreciation to the King for delegating a representative for their recent anniversary celebration.

Asante Kotoko
The management, technical team and playing body of the Asante Kotoko SC were not left out of the celebration.
Their purpose was to present their newly won President’s Cup and Toyota Cup trophies as well as medals to His Majesty, who is also their life patron.

The club also presented a replica of its new jersey for the next season to Otumfuo.
Nana Akwasi Awuah Apinkra, the Chairman of the Interim Management Committee of the Club, who led the delegation, expressed optimism about their impending continental campaign.
Yass Asantewaa Old Girls
The old students of Yaa Asantewaa Senior High School extended an invitation for the school’s upcoming anniversary.

“We are celebrating 65 years. We came to formally invite Otumfuo to the event on 4th October,” the leader of the delegation said.
Afia Kobi Serwaa Ampem Girls
The Manhyia Palace also received the old students of Afia Kobi Serwaa Ampem Senior High School, formerly Atwimaman SHS.
Yaw Twebeboa, an Executive of the Owoahene Old Students Association, informed the Asantehene about their 50th anniversary and extended an invitation to the Palace for the climax.
He said the celebration will climax on November 15, 2025.

He also informed Otumfuo about the strides the school is making both at the national and global levels in STEM.
“The whole world we are partaking in an Expo in Japan, representing Ghana. Afia Kobi has also qualified for the National level of the prestigious National Science and Maths Quiz.”
Tuareg
The leader of the Tuaregs in Ghana was there to convey some gifts and message from the supreme leader of the Tuaregs in Niger to the Asantehene.
He reported on the honourable reception he received as the representative of the Asantehene at their grand festival in Niger and publicly read a letter from the Supreme Leader to the Asantehene.

The letter, originally in French, conveyed gratitude to His Majesty and encouraged him to champion a unified front of African traditional leaders under Otumfuo’s leadership.
According to him, the Asantehene is the perfect authority to lead such a force for the development of the continent.
In the spirit of this, the Tuareg leader sent along a portrait of the continent of Africa with the inscription, ‘Otumfuo the King of Peace’.
Meanwhile, the Ambassador for Culture in Niger sent as a gift- a crafted silver portrait of ‘kyawkyaw’- to the King.
Madam Victoria Awua Mensah
In the company of her companions, Madam Awua Mensah, who says she is spiritually gifted with revelation, shared some revelations she had received.

She introduced herself as the originator of the famous Teachers Awards Scheme by the Otumfuo Osei Tutu II Foundation, which was instituted years ago to discourage the brain drain in the teaching sector.
She presented to the Manhyia Palace a documented copy of her recent revelations about the Asantehene.
Asanteman Association of Washington D.C.
This group from the United States of America, led by Owoahene Owusu Acheampong, brought with them some medical equipment as donations to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH).
Among the equipment were EKG machines, echocardiograms and wheelchairs.

They also presented US$3000 in support of the Heal KATH project.
The Asantehene commended the group for the gesture and encouraged them to keep it up.
NATAV
The National Association of Traditionalists and Ancestral Venerators, a group committed to fostering a deeper understanding and appreciation of African traditional religions and ancestral practices, unveiled their vision to the King.
They briefed His Majesty about their cause to ensure that traditional beliefs are preserved and passed on to future generations while advocating for their recognition and respect in contemporary society.

According to them, traditional spiritual practices are vital to cultural identity and should be celebrated and honoured.
They therefore embark on Community Engagements, Education and Advocacy, and support for Practitioners.
