Simon Osei Mensah Cautions KNUST Students
The Chairman for the Ashanti Regional Security Council, Hon. Simon Osei Mensah, has warned students planning distractions on the eve of vacation at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) to re-think their intended action.
“Any student who will be caught up in offenses bothering on criminality will have a criminal investigation opened against him or her and subsequently prosecuted in a competent law court”, he said in a statement.
“It has come to the notice of the Ashanti regional REGSEC that some students are plotting to hatch disturbance on the KNUST campus on the eve of vacation.
“Intelligence gathered by the security service reveals that some groups of unruly students are planning some disturbances on campus on the eve of vacation, that is 17th September 2021”, the Ashanti Regional Minister said and reminded, “It is instructive to remind the student population that the declaration of the University campus as a security zone in November 2018 is still in force and therefore it is an offense to demonstrate within the security zone. In this regard, the Regional Security Council has put measures in place to ensure that peace and sanity are maintained on the KNUST campus and that students leave on the vacation day to their homes in peace.”
“Students without authorization to stay on campus are therefore directed to leave by mid-day on Saturday, 18th September 2021. Security personnel also will be stationed on the campus to foil any unruly behaviour by any group of students”, the Ashanti Minister said
He advised students to concentrate on their studies and complete their programs and urged parents to caution their wards to flee from distractive acts.
