Shrek 5 Confirmed: Mike Myers, Eddie Murphy and Cameron Diaz Return
Get ready to return to the swamp! DreamWorks Animation has officially announced that Shrek 5 is in the works, with the original cast reprising their roles.
Mike Myers will once again bring the beloved ogre to life, joined by Cameron Diaz as Princess Fiona and Eddie Murphy as the fast-talking Donkey.
The studio revealed the news on social media, promising a July 1, 2026, release date.
“Not too Far, Far Away… Shrek 5 is coming to theatres on July 1 2026 with Mike Myers, Eddie Murphy, and Cameron Diaz.”
This marks the first Shrek film in 16 years, following the success of the original quadrilogy, which grossed over $1.4 billion worldwide.
The franchise also expanded with two Puss In Boots spin-off films, starring Antonio Banderas.
In a recent interview, Eddie Murphy hinted at a potential Donkey spin-off movie and confirmed that work on Shrek 5 began months ago. “We’ll finish it up this year,” he said.
The return of Shrek is highly anticipated, given the original film’s groundbreaking success and its impact on the animation industry.
The first Shrek movie won the inaugural Oscar for Best Animated Feature Film in 2001.
