Shell Fuel Dilution: Victims To Receive Compensation And Have Vehicles Fixed
The National Petroleum Authority (NPA) has disclosed it will compel the Shell fuel station to fix the cars of customers who were affected by the sale of diluted fuel at its Atimpoku branch in the Eastern region.
The victims will also receive compensation, the NPA said.
This was contained in a statement dated August 29 2022, from the NPA to announce that the fuel station in question has been closed down.
The NPA said it dispatched its team in the Eastern region to the fuel station to ascertain the veracity of the claims after they received an official complaint.
The team’s investigation revealed that there was indeed the presence of water, which was blamed on a recent downpour in the area.
Background
Some customers accused Shell Service Station at Atimpoku in the Eastern Region of Ghana of selling a mixture of water and fuel.
In a video intercepted by opemsuo.com, a victim of the incident, pumped some of the fuel on sale at the filling station into a plastic bottle to demonstrate the dilution.
The water was seen at the button occupying half of the content in the bottle with the fuel itself atop.
The victim recounted that after filling his car tank with fuel from that filling station, his car began to jerk after riding a few metres.
“We kept trying to start it but it wasn’t starting so we called a mechanic. He tried pumping out some of the fuel and this is what we had. They filled our tank with water. The fuel is what is floating at the top”.
He also showed a video of some other customers who had returned to the filling station to make a complaint about the fuel.
