Seven Additional Districts and Municipalities Upgraded
President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has approved a request to upgrade seven additional districts and municipalities in the country in accordance with Section 3(1) of the Local Governance Act, 2016 (Act 936).
In a statement issued on December 4, the Minister for Local Government, Decentralisation and Rural Development (LGDRD), Martin Adjei-Korsah said the approval is pending finalisation of all necessary legal and administrative processes.
“Pursuant to Section 3(1) of the Local Governance Act, 2016 (Act 936), H.E. Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo-Addo, President of the Republic of Ghana has granted Executive Approval for the upgrade of some Districts to Municipalities and Municipalities to Metropolis.”
The affected districts include four municipal assemblies and three district assemblies.
The upgraded Municipal assemblies are Ho, Sunyani, New Juaben and Wa while the upgraded districts include Offinso North, Birim North and Karaga.
Last month, the President approved the upgrade of Kpone-Katamanso Municipal Assembly and Techiman Municipal Assembly to Metropolitan Assemblies.
Meanwhile, Bole, Afigya Kwabre South, Atwima Kwanwoma, Atwima Nwabiagya North, Obuasi East, Sekyere South District, Ningo-Prampram, Anloga, South Tongu, Shama, Techiman North and Pru East were upgraded to Districts.
