Sekyere Kwaman Traditional Council Unveils New Omanhene

The Kwaman Traditional Council has unveiled Barima Debera Bediako Boateng II as the next Omanhene of Sekyere Kwaman, four years after the passing of the late chief, Barima Brentum Okyere Bediako.

The formal enstoolment, however, will only be completed after he swears the oath of allegiance to the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, as custom demands.

The colourful ceremony, held in Kwaman, featured a series of traditional rituals and was graced by dignitaries including chiefs, queen mothers, pastors, and members of the Ghana Bar Association.

During the event, the new Omanhene took an oath of allegiance, a symbolic act of commitment to his responsibilities as the leader of the traditional area. The oath was administered by Otumfuo Kyeame Mensah.

Several chiefs present used the occasion to advise the new ruler, urging him to uphold integrity, provide effective leadership, and work for the welfare of his people while preserving the rich traditions of his predecessors.

Adding historical depth to the occasion, Nana Owusu-Ansah Twum, Dadesoabahene, recounted the history of the Sekyere Kwaman stool and the lineage of past chiefs, stressing the cultural importance of the ceremony.

In Akan tradition, enstoolment remains one of the most significant rites, symbolizing continuity, unity, and the preservation of heritage. The Omanhene is regarded not only as a custodian of culture but also as a central figure in the social and developmental affairs of the community.
