See Declarations At Africa Health Sovereignty Summit

Leaders have committed to five declarations following the Africa Health Sovereignty Summit in Accra.
The event on August 5, 2025, convened under the patronage of President John Dramani Mahama, was attended by H.E. Olusegun Obasanjo, Former President of Nigeria; and H.E. Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, Former President of Liberia.
Also present were H.E. Ameenah Gurib-Fakim, Former President of Mauritius; H.E. Amma Twum-Amoah, AU Commissioner for Health, Humanitarian Affairs and Social Development; and Dr. Tedros Ghebreyesus, Director General of the WHO.
The meeting was purposed at charting a transformative path for global health financing and governance, recognising that the current global health architecture faces critical challenges, including funding shortfalls, fragmented leadership, and inequities that disproportionately affect the world’s poorest and most vulnerable populations.
At the summit, participants reaffirmed the urgent need for a new, equitable, and sustainable health governance system and committed to five declarations.
This has become crucial in the face of a rapidly evolving global geopolitical and health landscape, marked by diminishing international assistance and emerging health threats.
