See BoG’s Planned Activities For Cedi’s 60th Anniversary.

The Bank of Ghana (BoG) has published a list of activities to mark the 60 years of the country’s currency.

The cedi replaced the Ghanaian pound as legal tender six decades ago on July 19 and has since remained a strong symbol of the country’s economic sovereignty and development.

To adapt to the changing demands of the Ghanaian economy, the Cedi has evolved through several modifications in form and policy direction over the last 60 years.

Ghana’s tenacity, innovation and quest for economic stability are all embodied in the Cedi’s reforms, from the first note and coins to the safe currency we use today.

The celebration will begin in August and end in December 2025, featuring the official launch of the celebration, exhibitions, educational campaigns and stakeholder forum.
