See 62 Receivers Of ₵300M Judgment Debt In Akufo-Addo Govt
Information released by the Ministry of Finance in response to a Right to Information (RTI) request has revealed an amount of GH₵300,385,317.52 has been paid to sixty-two (62) judgment creditors by the Akufo-Addo-led government.
The payments were made from 2017 to 2022.
Per the release, a total of GHC111,244,741.41 was paid in 2017; GHC153,093,817.39 in 2018; GHC13,969,796.22 in 2019; GHC18,917,469.26 in 2020; GHC917,469.26 in 2021; and GHC2,801,682.24 in 2022.
More than 30 individuals could be counted to have received judgment debts in civil suits against the government within the specified period with the rest being companies and institutions.
During the State of the Nation Address (SONA) on February 27, President Akufo-Addo claimed the Attorney-General, Godfred Yeboah Dame, has saved the country from judgment debts worth GH¢10 trillion.
“The Attorney-General has continued, in a very effective manner, the tradition under this administration of contesting every civil litigation against the state, and has avoided the numerous judgment debts that used to be given against the state. The Office, as a result, has saved the country over ten trillion Ghana cedis (GH¢10 trillion).”
