School Building Collapse: Gender Ministry Announces Psychosocial Support for Victims

The Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection (MoGCSP) has announced plans to provide psychosocial support to victims and families affected by the building collapse at Accra Newtown on Sunday.
This intervention, it said, will be spearheaded by the Social Welfare Department.
It intends to do this in the coming days, it said in a press statement as it conveyed its commiseration to the families of three individuals who passed away and sympathised with the injured.
The Ministry commended the swift response of the emergency services and all those who helped to rescue and support victims.
“The Minister for Gender, Children, and Social Protection, Hon. Dr Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, on behalf of herself and the Ministry, extends her deepest condolences to the bereaved families who have lost loved ones and expresses sincere sympathy to all those who have sustained injuries or have been affected by this unfortunate incident.”
It also underscored the importance of adhering to safety standards and building regulations to protect human lives.
It emphasised, “The Ministry remains committed to promoting the safety and well-being of all persons, ensuring that no one is left behind.”
According to the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), an uncompleted four-storey building at the Experimental D/A School in Accra Newtown collapsed and trapped 23 people on March 29, 2026.
Three died, while 20 of them were rescued alive and transported to the Police Hospital, 37 Military Hospital, Mamobi Hospital and a private facility, the Minister for Interior, Muntaka Mubarak, reported at a presser.
