Savannah REGSEC Trashes Kidnapping Reports

The Regional Security Council of the Savannah region has debunked media reports that twenty women were kidnapped while working on their farms at Mempeasem in the West Gonja Municipality.

In an interview with Citi News monitored by opemsuo.com, the Public Relations Officer of the Savannah Regional Coordinating Council, Habibu Muftawu said the council is trying to find out how the story cropped up.

But he noted that an incident transpired on August 2, 2022, which could have been twisted to be what is circulating.

The PRO recounted that “some persons working on a farm spotted a woman passing. The farmers stopped her to ask where she was from but she couldn’t communicate back due to the language barrier. The farmers however established that she was hungry and so they gave her some groundnuts.

“With the recent issues of extremism, the farmers went back home and reported it. They called the regional security to inform them. There was no struggle in picking the woman from the farm to Damongo to the Police headquarters. The police combed the farm after that, a helicopter hovered around and no group was spotted”.

Habibu assured that none of the residents in the area has been reported missing since yesterday.
