Samuel Jinapor Distances Himself From “Daughter of Murderer” Comment

The Member of Parliament for Damongo Constituency, Samuel Abu Jinapor has distanced himself from an “unsavoury” comment a member of the Minority caucus made in a description of Zenator Rawlings, the daughter of the late former president Jerry John Rawlings.

During a Parliamentary debate on February 5, 2025, over the observation of a proper 60th anniversary celebration of the death of politician Joseph Boakye Danquah, Zenator who is MP for Korle Klottey Constituency rose to talk; however, she was denied due to the chaos the discussion was creating.

The Presiding Speaker, Andrew Asiamah, revoked the opportunity for members to contribute, restricting it to only the leaders.

Minority Leader, Alexander Afenyo Markin was therefore given the floor during which a voice shouted at Zenator, “Daughter of murderer, sit down”.

In reaction to the Minority Leader’s stern look at the commentator who was not captured on camera, he retorted, “But there is evidence her father murdered people.”

The former Lands Minister was accused of making the statement; however, he has denied it.

“For the record, the said allegation is absolutely false. I have utmost respect for Former President Jerry John Rawlings, his family and Dr. Zanetor Rawlings in particular. While he was alive, President Rawlings was someone who took a great likening and interest in me as a young politician and I had great respect for him as a Ghanaian Statesman.”

Jinapor noted that he will not in any way denigrate the former President, affirming his belief in decent debates and intellectual devoid of “insults and character assassination”.
