Samartex Go 5 Points Clear Atop
FC Samartex 1996 are five points clear ahead of Aduana Stars and are on course for the title after beating the latter to earn all three points in the first game in the second round of the Ghana Premier League (GPL).
The Lions continued their fine form at the Nana Agyemang Badu I Park where they scored two goals against the hosts on Monday.
Baba Hamadu Musa and Emmanuel Keyekeh put the visitors in the lead in the first half before Sampson Cobbinah pulled a consolation in the second half for his side.
The result left coach Nurudeen Amadu’s side with 35 points at the top of the league log ahead of Aduana. They have 11 wins, the highest this season with five losses and two draws.
The Lions are keenly followed by Aduana Stars who hold 30 points.
After their match week 18, Asante Kotoko have relinquished their third place to Nsoatreman who now hold 30 points taking fourth place with 29 points. This follows the Porcupine’s 1-0 loss to Heart of Lions.
With an outstanding game, Nations FC occupy the fifth place with 27 points and are followed by Berekum Chelsea and Bechem United who hold 27 and 26 points respectively.
The uninspiring defending Champions have 25 points, after 17 games played. Medeama have won seven of their games, lost six and drawn four, hanging on to the eighth position.
Advancing on the log are Hearts of Oak who on Sunday piped Real Tamale United 3-0 at the Accra Sports Stadium to move two places up with 24 points. The defeat sent RTU to the bottom of the log with 17 points.
Meanwhile, Great Olympics and Legon Cities are placed 10th and 11th respectively on 24 points each. On the other hand, are Dreams FC {with an outstanding match}, Bibiani GoldStar and Karela United wresting against the relegation zone with 22, 21 and 20 points respectively.
Accra Lions are sitting above the relegation zone with 20 points after managing just five wins this season.
Wobbling in relegation are Heart of Lions (18), Bofoakwa Tano (18) who at the beginning of the season were leading and RTU who are reeling from the internal struggles of the club.
