Sam George Condemns Afenyo-Markin’s ‘Heckling’ of Vetting Committee Clerk

Member of Parliament for Ningo Prampram Constituency, Sam George, has condemned as shameful, Minority Leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin’s ‘heckling’ of Madam Gifty Jiagge Gobah, a clerk assigned to the Vetting Committee.

In a Facebook post, he described the conduct of the MP for Effutu as “despicable,” “shameful,” “misogynistic,” and “narcissistic,” stating that it was gender-based and targeted a woman who has been a staff member of Parliament for 18 years.

“I am appalled at the despicable behaviour of Hon.Alexander Kwamena Afenyo-Markin  towards Madam Gifty Jiagge Gobah – the Clerk to the Appointments Committee of Parliament of Ghana.

“This shameful behaviour is unbecoming of a Leader of the august House. I am absolutely certain he would not have dared to do this to a male Clerk of Parliament.”

The Minister for Communication-designate called for a wide condemnation of the action of his fellow MP.

He also called on the Clerk of Parliament, Ebenezer Ahumah Djietror, to formally raise the issue with Rt. Hon Alban S.K. Bagbin, Speaker of Parliament.

“After the House has passed the Affirmative Action Law, we cannot condone and be complicit in such uncouth behaviour.”

He also openly announced his support for the victim.

“Madam Gifty Jiagge Gobah, I and many more decent people stand with you. Be encouraged and stand strong with your head held high. Your poise and composure even when you were under the barrage of insults are remarkable. Such a role model for our daughters.”

In Parliament on January 31, the Minority Leader called out the clerk for being partisan.
