Sam George Announces LI to Deal With Mis- And Disinformation

The Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovation, Samuel Nartey George, has issued a stern warning against misinformation and disinformation as he awaits Parliament’s resumption to submit a Legislative Instrument to prohibit the acts.
The Minister who was a victim at a presser on April 9 said the act would not be entertained.
“In the spirit of full transparency, we will present a specialised legislative drop document on misinformation disinformation before parliament to be passed into law in its next meeting to create a clear legal framework for law enforcement. Once the law is passed we will clamp down on you if you engage in mis- and disinformation.”
In addition to that, he said an instruction has been relayed to the Cyber Security Authority to immediately improve digital surveillance and monitoring.
The import is to “send a clear signal that such acts of dis- and misinformation will not be tolerated.”
He added, “The government respects freedom of expression and the right to public and private communication of citizens, but also wishes to remind us all that we have a collective civic duty to be responsible in our communication.”
