RTU Petition FA Over Penalty Awarded To Bofoakwa
Real Tamale United (RTU) have petitioned the Ghana Football Association (GFA) following their 2:1 defeat to Bofoakwa Tano FC on Friday at the Coronation Park.
The protest was filed on Monday, September 25, 2023, objecting to Referee Eric Sefa Antwi’s match officiation which saw a penalty awarded to the hosts altering the scoreline in the 86th minute.
The club posits that the award of the penalty was not done with due diligence.
“In the incidence that led to the award of the penalty, extra diligence was expected from the referee to protect the goalkeepers after the latter was challenged in the air by an attacker of the home side; instead referee Eric Sefa Antwi went for a penalty to appease the home fans who continuously yelled for penalty anytime they found a ball in our penalty area.
“The center referee frustrated efforts and game plan of our team with several bad calls against us in a premeditated move to grant the home side all 3 points.”
They, therefore, want the incident reviewed by the FA and the necessary sanction issued to avert recurrence.
“Our fans will remain calm and resolute as we engage the rest of the clubs in the betPawa GPL hoping that, we receive fair officiating in all our matches,” a statement from the Club on Monday said.
Promoted Club Bofoakwa Tano opened the scoreline 16 minutes into the game thanks to Saaka Dauda. It was cancelled when RTU’s Mohammed Hardi Abdulai found the net in the 62nd minute.
A collision between the RTU goalkeeper and an opponent player compelled the officiating referee to award a penalty which was converted by Steven Owusu Kakyire in the 86th minute.
