Royal Golf Club, Others Donate To Heal KATH

Almost half a million cedis was raised in support of the Heal Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) project which is being spearheaded by Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II during the seventh Akwasidae festival of the year.

The Royal Golf Cub, an Asante group in Barcelona and a contingency of Ghanaians based in the United States of America (USA) presented cheques in support of the drive to renovate the 70-year-old health facility in Kumasi.

The Golf club presented GH¢350,000.

Presenting it at the festival on September 15, 2024, the Director of Operations, Prof Bernard Baiden said they started mobilizing the funds from members and the golfing community six months ago in support of the life-saving project.

While the Group from Barcelona in Spain donated GH¢50,000, those from America gave an undisclosed amount and communicated their intention to give more in due time.

The cheques were received by Otutmfuo Hiahene Nana Prof. Oheneba Boachie-Adjei Woahene II who also appreciated the gesture.

“Thank you for the gesture and these donations. Hope you come back to Kumasi which is the Centre for Culture and help the King in his vision and honour your promise.”

HEAL KATH

The Heal KATH project is a US10 million revenue mobilization drive being championed by the King of the Asante Kingdom, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, in the quest to renovate the dilapidated structure of the second-largest hospital and the only tertiary health institution in the Ashanti Region.

The hospital, since its construction in 1954, has been deprived of any enhanced renovation, leaving it in a sorry state.

After 70 years of its existence with successive governments passing through the years, none made it a point to attend to it.

At the launch of the Heal KATH Project in November 2023, the Chief Executive officer of the hospital, Prof Otchere Addai-Mensah, disclosed the agenda to renovate the hospital had been on its radar for a long time but had to be shelved due to lack of funds.

Already, the renovation work is ongoing; however, there is a need for more funds as less than 40% of the US$10 million has been raised.
