Ronaldo Breaks World Record With 200 Caps
The Guinness World Record has recognized Cristiano Ronaldo as the world’s most-capped male player at the moment.
He has thus broken the record which was until last night, held by Kuwait’s Bader Al-Mutawa.
Ronaldo levelled Al-Mutawa’s record in 2022 during the World Cup after debuting in August 2003.
On June 20, 2023, during the UEFA EURO qualifiers in Iceland, where the striker made his 200th appearance for Portugal against Iceland, he was presented with a certificate by Guinness.
“Tonight, 20 June 2023, Ronaldo returned to the pitch for his memorable, history-changing 200th game,” Guinness World Record noted.
He scored the only goal- his 123rd in international football- in the match to qualify Portugal for the tournament.
Ronaldo described his recognition as a special flavour for Portugal’s qualification.
“Triumph with a special flavour. Not only for the day it was, for the tribute, for the 200th game… To top it off with a goal, I can’t ask for more. It was spectacular, unforgettable, for everything it generated around the game,” he is quoted to have stated.
