Roads to Close Around Manhyia Palace for Asantehemaa’s One-Week Observation

The Ashanti Regional Police Command has announced a comprehensive traffic management plan, including road closures and diversions, for the one-week observation of the late Asantehemaa, Nana Konadu Yiadom III, on Thursday, August 21, 2025.
In a public announcement released today, the police detailed that the measures are necessary to ensure safety, security, and orderly traffic flow during the major event expected to draw thousands of mourners and dignitaries to the Manhyia Palace.
Key Road Closures
Several roads will be temporarily closed to all vehicular traffic. These include:
* The entire stretch of Manhyia Bonjour Road from the Airport Roundabout to the Palace.
* Roads from Sumankwabene’s Junction, Nick Petroleum Filling Station, and St. Ann’s Anglican Church leading to the Palace.
* The Manhyia Government Hospital Road through to Alaba.
* Yokohene’s Palace Street, Hyiawuhemaa’s Palace Street, and the route from Nana Akwasi Agyemang Junction to the Manhyia Museum.
Designated Traffic Diversions
Motorists are advised to follow new traffic arrangements. Commercial and private vehicles from Dichemso and the Airport Roundabout intending to use the Manhyia Bonjour Road will be diverted through the Asawase Police Station and onto Kainako Road towards the Kumasi Central Mosque to access the central business district.
Access beyond the established diversion points will be strictly reserved for invited guests and official participants of the funeral. The police have warned that towing trucks will be on standby to remove any vehicles parked in unauthorized areas or abandoned on blocked roads at the owner’s expense.
Parking and Shuttle Services
To accommodate attendees, specific parking areas have been designated:
Government Officials: Antoa Station Car Park (with official stickers).
Chiefs and Queen Mothers: Melcom Car Park and DKC Car Park.
General Public: Central Mosque Car Park, Asawasi Methodist Park, and Atipimhene’s Park.
To ease movement, free shuttle services will operate for the public from the Central Mosque Car Park and the Asawasi Methodist Park to the Manhyia Palace grounds.
Restrictions on Specific Vehicles
A strict ban will be in effect for tricycles (Aboboyaa), rickshaws (Pragia), and motorbikes, which will not be permitted on any closed roads or near the event grounds. The police stated this measure is critical for maintaining safety and order, warning that non-compliant vehicles will be impounded.
“Motorists and the general public are urged to cooperate fully with police and traffic personnel to ensure smooth and effective traffic management during the one-week celebration. Your understanding and compliance will help prevent inconvenience and ensure a dignified celebration of the late Queen Mother’s life.”
