Rising Criminalities: Security Expert Blames Major Shortfalls In The Security Sector
A security expert, Mr. Noel Aboagye Samuel, has attributed the increasing rate of criminal activities in the country to major shortfalls in the security sector, especially in the police recruitment process.
Speaking on the Opemsuo Dawuro programme with Kwabena Kyeremateng Addo, Mr. Aboagye expressed concern over the politicisation of police enlistment in the country.
“Due diligence and background checks for police recruitment have been compromised due to political party affiliations, which has led to the recruitment of unqualified personnel into the police force,” he said.
He also pointed out that Community Police Assistant Personnel, who are supposed to serve as watchdogs in communities, have abandoned their core mandate, leaving local people vulnerable to criminal activities.
He urged city authorities to establish conflict management programs, guidance and counselling centres, and capacity-building training for the youth in Ghana to mitigate criminality.
The security expert’s comments come amid rising concerns about the increasing rate of crime in the country. There have been reports of robbery, murder, and other criminal activities in various parts of the country, leading to calls for urgent action to address the situation.
