Richmond Lamptey Assists Win Kotoko J. A Kufuor Cup
Two assists tactically and flawlessly set up by midfielder Richmond Lamptey powered the Asante Kotoko Sporting Club to a victory in the J.A Kufuor Cup competition on Sunday.
The two assists delivered after recess gave the Porcupines a comeback win over Nsoatreman FC at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium.
The Kumasi-based club were down by a goal at halftime, with Abdul Rahman scoring the opening goal for Nsoatreman in the first half, putting them ahead.
In the 57th minute, Lampety set up Ugandan striker Steven Mukwala to book a leveller for Kotoko. Ten minutes later, Peter Amidu decided the game with another assist from Lamptey giving Kotoko the chance to lift the enviable trophy.
The game was organised by the JA Kufuor Foundation in honour of the legacy of former President John Agyekum Kufuor and as part of his 85th birthday celebration.
The victory is a relief and a comfort to the Porcupines who earlier in the week got knocked out of the MTN FA Cup by Karela United in the Round of 16.
They suffered a 2:0 defeat at the Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium.
