Retired COP Mensah To Contest For Parliamentary Seat
The former Director of Operations of the Ghana Police Service, COP George Alex Mensah, plans not to stay home idle following his retirement from the Police Service.
COP Mensah clocked the retirement age- 60 years- on Saturday, September 16, 2023, and that automatically brought his service to an end.
He has since disclosed his intention to become a Parliamentary representative.
In an interview, he is reported to have announced his desire to vie for the Bekwai seat in Parliament as he hails from that constituency.
He is quoted as saying he arrived at the decision after brooding over the idea for a long time.
“I have thought about it and I will run as MP, I have been thinking about it for a long time and I have taken a decision, so I will contest. I am from Asante Bekwai and I will contest for the seat,” CNR quotes him as saying.
After openly declaring his status with the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), it is assumed that he will contest on their ticket and if that happens, he will contest the first deputy Speaker of Parliament and incumbent MP for Bekwai constituency, Joseph Osei Owusu.
COP Mensah was among three persons implicated in leaked audio over a plot to oust the Inspector General of Police, Dr George Akufo Dampare.
