Restore Kotoko’s Glory; Former Board Chairman to Players

Former Asante Kotoko Board Chairman, Herbert Mensah, has challenged the club to work towards restoring its dimmed glory.
Speaking on behalf of Otumfuo Osei Tutu II during the presentation of the MTN FA Cup trophy and medals at the Manhyia Palace on June 18, 2025, he urged both playing and technical bodies to up their games.
He affirmed that the team’s output must match His Majesty’s significant investments in the club.
“You must get back up to be at the world club championship. Bring the glory back. Otumfuo has invested. It is not Otumfuo’s job to invest in Kotoko. It is the responsibility of the Board to invest. It is an honour and a privilege to hold Asante Kotoko.”
According to him, Asante Kotoko goes beyond a football club.
“They think you are playing football. It is more than football. You represent the spirit of Asanteman. If you are only playing football, you are playing the wrong team.”
He further commended the team on its 10th FA Cup title.
“I can say thank you to the players, the coaches and the management of Kumasi Asante Kotoko on behalf of my father (Asantehene).”
Kotoko added to their illustrious history by clinching the MTN FA Cup over the weekend after pipping Golden Kicks 2-1 at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium.
Presenting the trophy, the Chairman of the Interim Management Committee (IMC), Nana Apinkra Akwasi Awuah, said Kotoko started the season with an aspiration of winning the two titles however grave mistakes cost them the league title.
Notwithstanding that, he said they were successful in the FA competition which started with 64 teams.
He said the club deemed it imperative to win the trophy to honour the King for the substantial investment he had made in the club within the season which included the GHc4.5 million he gave the club to buy new players ahead of the season.
Among the delegation were James Kwesi Appiah, a member of the IMC, Acting Head Coach, Karim Zito, other technical team members, players, former players and supporters.
