Renovated Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park Reopens After Temporal Shutdown
The renovated Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park (KNMP) will reopen today, Tuesday, July 11 after it was shut temporarily following a ceremony to mark its redevelopment last week.
The Park which now has an expanded Museum, a Presidential Library, a refurbished Mausoleum, a mini Amphitheatre, a restaurant, a new audio-visual fountain, a gift shop, and a new reception, amongst others, was closed to make way for “preparations towards commercial operation.”
A statement from the acting Director of the KNMP dated July 7 said it was to be closed from midnight till July 11.
The Park, President Akufo-Addo said, had been upgraded to a standard that befits the stature of the former and first President of Ghana, Dr Kwame Nkrumah at a cost of GHC13 million.
The refurbished park is now estimated to attract more than one million tourists annually, up from the 90,000 visitors it previously attracted.
It was first closed on May 27, 2022.
According to a notice from the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture at the time, the closure was to allow for major works to upgrade the Memorial Park to a standard that befits the stature of the former President and boosts the attractiveness of the Park and overall tourism performance of the country.
