Rally Behind Whoever Is Elected; Otumfuo Advices NPP
Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II has advised the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to rally behind whoever the party will elect as the flag bearer for the 2024 general elections.
Nine persons are eyeing the flagbearer position of the ruling party.
They include former Trade and Industry Minister Alankyerematen; former Agriculture Minister Owusu Afriyie Akoto; Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia; a former Minister of Energy, Boakye Agyarko; and the Member of Parliament (MP) for Assin Central, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong;
A former Presidential Spokesperson and General Secretary of the party, Kwabena Agyepong; a former Attorney-General and Minister of Justice, Joe Ghartey; a former MP for Mampong, Francis Addai-Nimoh; and a former Minister of State, Dr Kofi Konadu Apraku.
On Monday, January 30, 2023, one of the aspirants, Alan Kyerematen called on Otumfuo to make known to him his presidential bid.
“Recently, I submitted my resignation letter to President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and told him I’ve been serving for a while now but it’s time for me to move on. After that, I addressed the nation to inform them about it. When the nomination is opened in the NPP, I will aspire for the position.”
In response, the Asantehene stated that God is the maker of men and therefore advised the party to throw its weight behind whoever will win the Presidential primaries which are scheduled for later this year.
“Whoever your party will vote for, give him your support”, he said through his linguist.
The NPP seeks to retain power for the third time in the 2024 General elections of the country while the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) is working to recapture power.
Nomination for the NPP presidential primaries is yet to open.
