Rains Causing Recent Outages- ECG
The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) blames recent rainstorms for power outages in most parts of the country lately.
According to the power distributor, strong winds and heavy downpours causing the falling of trees and billboards on its electrical conductors lead to the outages.
“The Electricity Company of Ghana Limited (ECG) wishes to inform our cherished customers and the general public that, although we are working tirelessly to strengthen and maintain a robust distribution network, massive rainstorms and stormy winds usually cause the falling of trees, billboards, ripped roofing, etc. on our electrical conductors, resulting in outages.”
These situations, it however said are immediately resolved to restore power to customers.
“The outages that are caused by transient tripping (temporary interruptions) on our feeders are remotely restored soon after the rainstorm.”
That notwithstanding, the Company said permanent faults on its feeders demand some time to be rectified and therefore take a while for power to be restored.
It further urged individuals in communities with sagging or fallen electrical conductors to report to the ECG Call Centre on 0302-611611, the nearest ECG office, or reach them on their social media handles for prompt response.
Meanwhile, it cautioned the public against treading near sagging or fallen electrical conductors, stating it could be fatal.
