Qualifying for World Cup is My Topmost Priority- Kwesi Appiah
To the many Ghanaians who did not know, the head coach of Sudan, James Kwesi Appiah says his ambition is to qualify his boys to the next World Cup tournament.
Though he aims to qualify his team for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations tournament, the former Black Stars head coach says his eyes are fixed on the World Cup.
“My topmost priority is to qualify Sudan for the 2026 World Cup,” he disclosed in an interview on Asempa FM.
He has so far led the Falcons of Jediane to the top of their Group with 10 points- two points clear from Senegal after four games. His team has conceded just a goal, putting behind the net seven.
They are yet to taste defeat in the qualifiers.
In the ongoing AFCON qualifiers, Kwesi Appiah said he is not only hoping to qualify the team for their 10th Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament but also looks forward to his country’s qualification as well.
The Ghanaian tactician made this known in an interview prior to Ghana and Sudan’s doubleheader in the 2025 AFCON qualifier.
“I hope both Ghana and Sudan qualify for the 2025 AFCON. We just have to pray and hope that we all achieve our goal.”
Sudan goes into the game against Ghana comfortably sitting in second place in Group F with three points after losing against leaders Angola and winning against Niger.
Meanwhile, Ghana sits in third place with one point. The game is crucial for Ghana as their fate hangs in the balance.
The Accra Sports Stadium will host the first leg of the game on October 10, 2024, while the second leg will be hosted in Libya on October 15.
