Push Further For Women’s Rights; CHRAJ to Gov’t

The Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) has encouraged the government to press further to safeguard and ensure the rights of women and girls in the country.

Acknowledging the efforts of the government in the implementation of various regulations and initiatives towards addressing gender inequality and women’s empowerment over the years, it noted that a myriad of challenges against the gender continues to persist.

“Women continue to face social, political, economic and cultural challenges.”

It therefore advised the government and relevant stakeholders to push further.

“Government and relevant stakeholders are entreated to do more to ensure the rights protection of all women and girls, as well as Ghana’s compliance with the dictates of the 1992 Constitution and other international instruments.”

It also urged the Attorney-General to adopt and resubmit the already passed Criminal Offences (Amendment) Bill, as a government bill for passage.

“The Commission on the occasion of IWD 2025 takes the opportunity to call upon the Attorney-General to adopt the Criminal Offences (Amendment) Bill, which initially came to the 8 Parliament and was passed as a Private Members Bill, as a government bill and to introduce it before the 9th Parliament to be passed into law.”
