Prof Alidu Seidu Mahama Declared Tamale Central MP-elect

The former Head of the Political Science Department at the University of Ghana, Prof Alidu Seidu Mahama, has been declared the Member of Parliament-elect for Tanale Central Constituency.

He will replace Hon Murtala Mohammed, who passed away in a helicopter crash on August 6, alongside others.

It follows the withdrawal of nominations by all other interested parties.

Making the declaration on Monday, the Returning Officer for the Tamale Central constituency, Muniru Issah, explained, “LPG, right after the close of nominations, submitted letters to the Returning Officer indicating their interest in withdrawing from that contest.”

“In line with CI 127, the Electoral Commission reopens nominations for another ten days. The ten days elapsed on the day before Sunday. As it stands, it means that only Prof Alidu Sei Mahama stands nominated.”

In accordance with the said constitutional provision, he declared the candidate as MP-elect.

“In view of this, I, Muniru Issah, Returning Officer for the Tamale Central constituency, in working with CI 12(7), hereby declare Prof Alidu Seidu Mahatma as the MP-elect for Tamale Central Constituency.”
