Ampem Darkoa FC Qualifies For CAF Women’s Champions League

Ophelia Amponsah’s near-half-time winner was enough for Ampem Darkoa Football Club to secure a qualification for the CAF Women’s Champions League which will be held later this year.

Amponsah fired home the only goal in the game in the 41st minute giving Ghana the advantage over Nigeria on Thursday.

The Delta Queens of Nigeria were denied an equalizer as Ampem Darkoa kept their ground throughout.

Ghana has thus emerged winner of the WAFU Zone B and qualified for the third edition of the TotalEnergies CAF Women’s Champions League.

After winning this season’s Malta Guinness Women’s Premier League, Ampem Darkoa qualified as the country’s representative for the WAFU Zone B game. The Techiman-based Club booked a place in the Champions League when they thrashed Hasaacas Ladies in this season’s final premier league.

In the previous year, Ampem Darkoa missed out on the TotalEnergies CAF Women’s Champions League after losing to Nigeria’s Bayelsa Queens in the final of the Wafu B zonal qualifiers.

They were thrashed by 3 goals to nil ending their chase for the grand title.

The 2023 TotalEnergies CAF Women’s Champions League will take place in November in Côte d’Ivoire.
