PRINCOF Reduces Teacher Trainees Feeding from Thrice to Once Daily

The Conference of Principals of Colleges of Education (PRINCOF) has reduced the number of times students of training colleges will be fed from thrice to once daily.

In a statement, the Conference said the difficulty in sustaining the provision of three meals per day within the current allocation of GHS 8.00 per trainee was informing its new decision.

“Effective Monday, all teacher trainees residing on campus will be provided with one hot meal daily.”

It explained that efforts to persuade the Teacher Trainees Association of Ghana (TTAG) to increase the daily rate to a reasonable amount for students to contribute to the colleges for feeding have been unsuccessful over the years.

“It is important to remember that, out of the total monthly amount of GHS 400 that the Government pays to students for feeding, PRINCOF and TTAG have an arrangement in which a monthly amount of GHS 196, made up of GHS 8.00 per day per student, is deducted to feed students.

“However, efforts by PRINCOF to persuade TTAG to increase the daily rate to a reasonable amount for students to contribute to the colleges for feeding have been unsuccessful over the years.”

Acknowledging the importance of adequate nutrition to trainee welfare and academic performance, it reaffirmed its resolve to ensure that feeding arrangements are realistic and within our institutions’ financial capacity.

“The present strain on college budgets is significant, and this measure is aimed at safeguarding essential services while ensuring that at least one nutritious meal is provided daily.”
