President Releases GH¢14 Million To Disjoin Conjoined Twin
The President of the Republic of Ghana, Nana Addo Danquah Akufo-Addo, on Tuesday, August 31, 2020, paid an amount of GH¢14,394,397.58 as cost of operation and the purchase of surgical equipment to disjoin conjoined twin.
The twin was announced on social media after benevolent citizens tried to solicit for funds to operate on them.
The President through the Chief of Staff, Akosua Frema Opare on Monday, July 5, 2021 announced the decision to take up the cost on her visit at the Ridge Hospital.
The twin who is joined in the skull will be separated on the second week of September, Eugene Arhin, the Director of Communication at the presidency has said.
“President Akufo-Addo on Tuesday, 31st August 2021, fulfilled the pledge made by Government to pay for the full cost of the surgery of the conjoined twins at the Greater Accra Regional Hospital (Ridge Hospital)
Through the Chief of Staff at the Office of the President, Hon. Akosua Frema Osei-Opare, an amount of GH¢14,394,397.58 (cost of operation and the purchase of surgical equipment) has been released for the procedure, which is expected to commence in the second week of September”, he posted on Facebook.
