President Mahama to Render Account on Ghana’s Reparation Advocacy to AU

President John Dramani Mahama is scheduled to travel to Malabo, Equatorial Guinea, this weekend for the Mid-Year Coordination Meeting (7th MYCM) of the African Union to render an account to about Ghana’s advocacy for reparations.
The President announced this to the Council of State during a meeting at the Jubilee House on July 7, 2025.
“We have the Mid-year AU this weekend so I will be going to Malabo for it. Ghana is the champion on reparations so I will be presenting a report on the advocacy for reparations.”
The Seventh Mid-Year Coordination Meeting (7th MYCM) of the African Union, the Regional Economic Communities, the Regional Mechanisms and the African Union Member States will take place on 13th July 2025.
The meeting will be convened under the AU theme of the year 2025 “Justice for Africans and People of African Descent through Reparations”.
The Mid-Year Coordination Meeting, as per the Protocol, is expected to do the following:
Assess the status of continental integration and coordinate efforts to accelerate the integration process;
Coordinate the implementation of a clear division of labour and effective collaboration between the Union, RECs, RMs and Member States, in line with the principle of subsidiarity, complementarity and comparative advantage;
Coordinate and harmonize AU and REC policies to accelerate Africa’s integration process;
Identify areas of cooperation and establish mechanisms for regional, continental and global cooperation in each sector or subsector;
Guide the Union and the RECs in matters about priority programmes, resources needed for implementation of these programmes and the impact of such programmes in improving the lives of the African people;
Review and assess the status of implementation of decisions and legal instruments about the relations among the Union, RECs and RMs.
