President Mahama to Attend Akwasidae This Sunday

Asanteman is expecting President John Dramani Mahama at the weekend’s grand Akwasidae Festival.

The first Akwasidae festival comes off this Sunday, January 19, 2025, at the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi with a host of dignitaries expected.

Among them is the country’s sixth President who was sworn into office on Tuesday, January 7, 2025, at the Independence Square.

At the Asanteman Council meeting on January 13, Nananom were informed about the President’s attendance and directed to join His Majesty in receiving the guest of honour at the Manhyia Palace.

Otumfuo Kyeame Kantankrakyi made the announcement at the Council’s first meeting on Monday.

H.E Mahama will be publicly visiting the Manhyia Palace as President for the first time in eight years.

In the December 2024 polls, President Mahama secured  6,591,790 votes representing 56.42% to secure a comeback to power.

His contender, former Vice-President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), garnered 4,877,611 votes representing 41.75%.

Mahama lost against former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo two consecutive times in his attempt to secure a second term after superintending over the country’s administration for only a term from 2013 to 2017.
