President Akufo-Addo Delivers SONA
President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has presented the State of the Nation Address (SONA) as part of his mandate and responsibility to Parliament.
In accordance with Article 67 of the 1992 Constitution, the President ran through his government’s achievements in the past year and their projections in the current year.
His address on February 27, 2024 covered education, security, health, energy, finance, digitalization, agriculture, sports, etc.
In Parliament were Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, First Lady Rebecca Akufo-Addo, Second Lady Samira Bawumia, Speaker of Parliament Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo, former President John Dramani Mahama and former First Lady Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings.
Also in the House were former Speaker Mark Ocquaye, National Chairman of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), General secretary Fiifi Fiavi Kwetey, General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Justin Kodua Frimpong and Presidential Candidate for the All People’s Congress (APC), Hassan Ayariga.
In his submission, the President assured that Ghana is safe and secure under his government as it remains the only coastal state along the Gulf of Guinea that has so far not recorded a terrorist attack.
On the government’s achievements in the past seven years, President Akufo-Addo said they are unprecedented.
“I have the confidence to say that every performance indicator used shows we have done more in these seven (7) years than in any of the eight (8) years under the NDC.”
“I do not intend to go through the long, even if interesting process of enumerating the projects the Akufo-Addo Government has undertaken since coming into office, their location and what stage of completion they are in. Mr Speaker, with the best will in the world, there simply will not be the time to do that, even if we spent all day here.”
