Prempeh I Airport Starts Operation Today

The new terminal at the Prempeh I International Airport is starting operations today, July 1, 2024, after it’s commissioning on May 10, 2024.

Its operationalization follows a series of subsystem simulations and two full-scale integrated simulations of all processes and systems in the new terminal building.

The new building with the capacity to handle 800,000 passengers per annum, and process 200 passengers per hour, is fitted with 2 passenger boarding bridges, a Presidential lounge and three (3) other lounges; four (4) boarding Gates; four (4) Self-Service Check-in Kiosks; nine (9) Check-in Desks; and sixteen (16) Immigration booths.

It also has Airline and Staff offices, a large Commercial Retail area, a Currency Declaration office, a Forex Bureau, a visa-on-arrival facility, an automated car park, a Multipurpose Faith room, a dedicated area for unaccompanied minors, modern Baggage Handling Systems and a Medical Facility among others.

Meanwhile, some airlines operating domestic flights in the region have begun adjusting to the development.

In a statement last week, PassionAir prompted its passengers it will begin operations from the new Terminal building on Monday.

“We are committed to making this transition as seamless as possible, aiming to provide exceptional customer service both at the new Prempeh 1 International Airport and across all our route networks. Your comfort and convenience remain our top priority.”
