Power Fully Restored; GRIDCo after Tafo-Nkawkaw Transmission Trip

The Ghana Grid Company (GRIDCo) says it has fully restored power to all parts of the country that were affected by last night’s transmission trip.
According to the operator of the National Interconnected Transmission System, the Tafo-Nkawkaw transmission line tripped after a fault at 20:09 hrs.
Areas affected included some parts of Accra, Kumasi, Sunyani, Techiman, Bui, Tumu, Sawia and other parts of Northern Ghana.
While efforts were in progress to restore the line to service, other adjacent lines tripped, causing a loss of some power plants, it communicated in a press statement.
“This loss of generation resulted in the loss of power supply to some parts of Accra and Kumasi as well as the Northern parts of Ghana beyond Kumasi.”
The situation was immediately addressed by GRIDCo’s System Control Centre (SCC), stabilising the power system and commencing restoration of supply to affected areas.
“By 22:57 hrs power supply had been fully restored.”
The company used the occasion to apologise to the general public for the inconvenience caused by the event.
