Politics Should Never Be for Personal Gain – NPP’s Kwabena Agyepong

Presidential hopeful Kwabena Agyei Agyepong has condemned the growing perception that politics is a means for personal enrichment, stressing that leadership should be defined by integrity, service, and sacrifice rather than material reward.
In an engagement with Kofi Boakye on Opemsuo Radio’s Nkwantannanso with Kofi Boakye, the Presidential hopeful expressed disappointment at how politics in Ghana has increasingly become associated with self-interest.
“It is beginning to seem like in Ghana once you get into politics you must eat, but it must not be so,” he stated, calling for a shift in mindset among both politicians and the public.
He explained that his commitment to politics is driven by a desire to promote honesty and discipline in national leadership, not to pursue personal benefits. According to him, leadership must be about serving the people.
Furthermore, he vowed to remain steadfast in advocating for what is right, even if doing so might not be politically convenient.
“I want to be an advocate for the right things to be done in this country… Even if it will cost me politically, I don’t mind. I want to be known as someone who fought for what is good.”
Agyepong’s remarks form part of his broader campaign message, which calls for a renewal of ethics, discipline, and purpose in Ghana’s political culture — values he believes are essential for restoring public trust in leadership.
