Police Yet to Respond to Changes in Minority’s ‘Occupy BoG’ Protest

According to the Minority in Parliament, the Regional Commander of the Accra Regional Police Command has failed to respond to a review of their date to protest against the top Management of the Bank of Ghana (BoG).

In a letter to the Command on August 12, 2024- a day to the rescheduled date- the Caucus in parliament sought to convene a meeting with officials to reach a consensus.

“With just a day to our proposed demonstration, the Minority in Parliament is yet to receive a response from the Ghana Police Service on our request for rescheduling

“In view of the foregoing, the Minority kindly requests a meeting with the Police at a venue and time of your choice, to consider the modalities for our demonstration against the Governor of the Bank of Ghana and his deputies,” the letter appended by the leader of the Minority, Cassiel Ato Forson said.

The Minority in Parliament served notice to undertake a protest on July 30, 2024, and subsequently received the approval of the police. However, some days before the set date, the group communicated its intention to extend the date in a letter to the police.

In the letter, they suggested August 13, 2024, between the hours of 8:00 am and 6:00 pm.
