Police Say Investigations Into Death Of Albert Donkor Is Underway
The police service has announced it has commenced investigations into the “mysterious” death of Albert Donkor, a resident of Nkoranza in the Bono East Region of Ghana.
His death resulted in a riot which led to the death of one more person and the subsequent destruction of properties at the Nkoranza Divisional and District Police Headquarters by some irate youth from Nkoranza.
Following the visit of the Inspector-General of Police, George Akufo Dampare and some members of the Police Management Board (POMAB) to the Nkoranza Community on May 25, 2022, the police service relayed that a series of investigations have begun.
“The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) and the Police Professional Standards Bureau (PPSB) have since commenced investigation into the circumstances that led to the death of Albert Donkor”, he said.
Additionally, it said the investigation has also been extended to cover the attacks on the Police station and the rioting in the town resulting in the death of Victor Owusu and the injuries to others.
“Ballistics experts have been deployed here in Nkoranza to assist in the investigation. All the families have been contacted and they are working with the Police in the investigation by providing statements among others.”
The IGP, the statement revealed, has requested the cooperation of the families of the deceased to perform a postmortem on the bodies immediately to facilitate the completion of the investigations.
It also noted that clinical psychologists have been assigned to offer psychological support to Police personnel and their families as well as the families of the deceased.
