Police Investigate Damage to Akufo-Addo’s Statue

The police have launched investigations into the damage of the controversial statue of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo in Sekondi, Western Region.

Images circulating on social media after the 2024 Presidential election which saw the ousting of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) showed part of its legs damaged with its plaque removed.

A statement issued by the Ghana Police Service on December 16 announced, “The Ghana Police Service has commenced investigation into the damage caused to the statue of His Excellency, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, located at the Effia Nkwanta Regional Hospital Roundabout in Sekondi, Western Region.”

It is determined to effect the arrest of the perpetrators to face justice immediately.

Since the inauguration of the statue at the entrance of Effia-Nkwanta Hospital in Sekondi in November, many have expressed dissatisfaction and anger.

Their wrath lies in the decision to inaugurate the statue when the hospital was yet to be completed.
