Police Intercept Large Consignment of Tramadol along Obuasi-Dunkwa Highway

The Obuasi Police have arrested five suspects after intercepting and seizing large quantities of assorted prohibited drugs while being transported on a red OA Kia Grandbird bus to Ayamfuri, near Dunkwa-On-Offin in the Central Region.
The consignment intercepted on February 13, 2026, was made up of 257 packs of 50mg tramadol, 58 packs of 250mg tramadol, also known as Red, and 58 packs of 225mg tapendol, also known as Royal.
The bus came across the Tweapease Police barrier on the Obuasi – Dunkwa highway, where it was subjected to a search.

The police found two sealed brown boxes containing the drugs.
Arrest
The driver of the bus, identified as Joseph Nkrumah, 37 years old, was immediately arrested, and went on to mention one Perpetual, a native of Ayamfuri, as the owner of the drugs, during interrogation.
“On the next day, 14th February, 2026, whilst investigation was underway, the said owner of the drugs, together with three others, namely Diana Mensah, 40 years; Abena Neyea, 43 years and Nana Akua, 35 years, showed up at the same Tweapease barrier with a cash of GHt50,000.00 to grease the palms of the police.”

The police reportedly took the money and immediately arrested suspect Perpetual and her three friends for further investigation.
The cash of GHc50,000.00 is also retained for evidential purposes.
The suspects were put before the court on February 16, 2026, on a provision under the Public Health Act, 2012, Act 851: Prohibited sale of drugs, herbal medicinal products, cosmetics, medical devices and other household chemical substances.

“The Ashanti South Regional Police Command is hereby reiterating its warning to criminals to avoid the jurisdiction in the course of perpetrating their nefarious trade, as they would find the Ashanti South terrain very hostile.”
