Police Go After Thugs For Attempting to Obstruct Awukudae Rites in Offinso

The police are on a manhunt for a group of people for attempting to obstruct the performance of traditional rites to mark the Awukudae festival in the Offinso Traditional Council.

The Paramount Chief of Offinso, Nana Dwame Akenteng II, was confronted by a group of youth in the town, in an attempt to restrain him on February 12, 2025.

A statement issued by the Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr Frank Amoakohene, acknowledged the incident.

“In the early hours of Wednesday, 12th February 2025, security reports indicate that a group of youth in Offinso attempted to restrain the Chief from performing traditional rites related to Awukudae.”

He added that efforts are underway to round up the persons behind the act.

“The police have been tasked with investigating the situation, ensuring law and order are restored, and taking necessary action against anyone found culpable.”

 

The Minister also urged residents to be law-abiding.

“I call on all residents to remain calm, respect the rule of law, and uphold peace and stability in our communities. The security services are committed to ensuring the safety of all citizens and will take necessary measures to prevent the recurrence of such incidents.”
