Police Foil Highway Robbery, Kill Suspect

The Police in the Bono Region have shot dead one suspect after foiling a robbery along the Dormaa-Gonokrom highway.

The gang had planned to attack traders travelling along the route on February 12, 2026.

However, on a tipoff, police surveillance teams were immediately deployed to foil the intended robbery.

“In the early hours of 12th February 2026, officers advancing near a parked motorbike came under gunfire from nearby bushes,” the police reported in a statement.

It said the police returned fire, and a search at daybreak found one male suspect dead, with an AK47 rifle beside him.

A further search led to the recovery of a sack containing additional weapons and ammunition, including two Baikal single-barreled guns, a pump action gun, and one Beretta pistol loaded with three rounds of 9mm ammunition.

Also in the sack were 34 rounds of 9mm ammunition, one AK47 rifle loaded with 11 rounds of ammunition plus 10 rounds of ammunition, 39 rounds of BB cartridges, one dagger, a mobile phone, a Honda motorbike, a black mask, and a set of talismans.

The body of the deceased was deposited at the Police Hospital morgue for preservation, identification and autopsy.

The Bono Regional Police Command assured the public that efforts are ongoing to identify the remaining gang members and bring them to face justice.

“The command also calls on the general public to assist the Police with credible information that will lead to the arrest of persons involved in criminal activities, as we continue to work tirelessly to enhance safety and security across the Region.”
